DELAVAN - Police are on scene of a crash on WIS 50 at Town Hall Road near Delavan in Walworth County.

The crash resulted from a police chase that began just before 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. According to Delavan Police Chief Phillip Smith, the chase lasted around six minutes and began after a silver sedan was seen running several stop lights and stop signs.

Police first observed the car in Lake Geneva but did not chase the car through downtown. They continued their pursuit on the other side of town, at one point getting up to 100 mph.

Investigators report the driver lost control on a bend off Hwy 50 and ripped through the forest and into a bank parking lot. The crash tore apart the vehicle, killing the driver.

The highway was closed for nearly three hours, but has been reopened.

The driver has not been identified, but was a male in his 20s.
