Newburg woman dies in early-morning crash on Highway 33

WASHINGTON CO. - An early-morning crash on Highway 33 and M in Washington County took the life of a woman from Newburg. The crash was called in just after 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, a 41-year-old woman from Milwaukee was eastbound on Hwy 33 when her vehicle entered a curve and crossed left of center into the westbound lane.

The vehicle collided head on with a westbound vehicle being operated by a 42-year-old woman from Newburg. The Newburg woman was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington County Medical Examiner. The Milwaukee woman was transported to Froedtert Hospital by Flight for Life with serious injuries.

"The reason for the eastbound vehicle operating left of center is undetermined at this time," the sheriff's office said. "The investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team is continuing."

All lanes of Highway 33 were closed at Decorah Road for almost five hours. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced the road way reopened just after 9:45 a.m.
