Mayor Barrett is fighting to reduce co-sleeping infant deaths
MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner has been called to 13 co-sleeping deaths in Milwaukee so far this year. Mayor Tom Barrett will deliver a message about safe sleep practices later Wednesday.
This isn't the first time Mayor Barrett has spoken out on the problem. Back in 2011 he also commented on co-sleeping deaths.
"Co-sleeping is for me [is] personally the most frustrating,” he explained. “Because it seems that every month or so, every couple or weeks, we read another story about a mother, an aunt, a grandmother or a father who wants to cuddle with their baby and has the baby in bed with them, and it's a recipe for disaster."
Mayor Barrett's goal is to reduce the infant mortality rate in Milwaukee by 10 percent by 2017.
