GENESEE DEPOT - The trailer reported stolen by a Waukesha County Boy Scout Troop was returned late Friday afternoon, ending a 24-hour mystery.

Troop leaders showed up to their weekly meeting on Thursday only to find their trailer was missing.

"Only a cut padlock was found in the area," said Scoutmaster Patrick Hoppel. "The trailer contains essentially all of the scout’s camping equipment, including tents, stoves, cooking supplies, canopies, lanterns, coolers, tools and chairs. Even the formal United States and troop flags, with over 40 years of ribbons, poles and stands were inside."

According to Hoppel, the trailer was parked in St. Paul’s Catholic Church parking lot, located at the intersection of Highway 83 and County Road D in Genesee Depot.

Waukesha County Sheriff's officers would not comment on how or where the trailer was recovered.

Hoppel said he got a phone call about 5:15 p.m. reporting the trailer was recovered and would be returned.

Troop 135 includes 32 boys, from Oconomowoc, Delafield, Wales, Waukesha, North Prairie, Eagle, and Genesee.
