Governor Doyle announced this afternoon that I-94 is finally fully back open in Jefferson County.
The westbound lanes of the highway have been closed since shortly after the major flooding earlier this month.
The major flooding led to concerns about bridges over the Rock and Crawfish rivers.
Crews were eventually able to get traffic back open in both directions by moving it all over to the eastbound lanes. However, that led to big delays in both directions because traffic was cut to one lane in each direction.
The Governor says WisDOT inspectors have thoroughly inspected the westbound bridges and deemed them safe for travel.
The eastbound lanes will continue to be restricted to one lane through Friday while crews work to remove the work that was completed to allow the crossover.
The DOT states that the crossover lanes cost $900,000 to build.
A spokesman for the Governor adds that the state's revenue would have suffered even more had crews not been able to construct the new connection between Milwaukee and Madison.
