PEWAUKEE - A 48-year-old Brookfield man has surrendered to police after a standoff that lasted more than three hours.

The standoff began just before 11:00 a.m. Friday after Waukesha County Sheriff's Deputies tried to arrest the man on charges from an ongoing investigation. He refused to talk, and barricaded himself in a business near North Springdale Road and Jericho Drive in Pewaukee.

The Waukesha County Tactical Enforcement Unit negotiated with the man, and he surrendered just after 2:00 p.m.

“It was a situation that just escalated,” said neighboring business owner Rick Owen.

Owen was told to leave the area, “I was certainly making some phone calls to see what was going on.”

Jim Mars was told to sit tight at first, but then he was escorted out, “The police man told me there’s a man with a gun and that’s why they wouldn’t let me out, but I guess they were worried about him coming through the wall.”

“Very unusual.  This is a quiet neighborhood and we don’t typically have this type of situation,” Owen said.
