HARTFORD - A teen’s mysterious death in Hartford has shocked the community.

Jessie Blodgett, 19, was found dead inside her family’s Hartford home Monday afternoon.  Her mother had returned to the house during her lunch break and found the teen dead in her bed.

Police won’t say how Blodgett died or whether the death is suspicious. Chief David Groves only would say “it’s an ongoing investigation”.

Blodgett was going to be a sophomore at UWM and planned to study Music Education this fall. Charles Blodgett describes his daughter as strong-willed, bright and a top notch student.

Two months ago she started her own business teaching music lessons. She had rounded up 28 students already.

Mr. Blodgett said he doesn’t want to speculate on what happened to his daughter but that he believes someone harmed her.

News of her death has quickly traveled through the small, tight-knit community leaving many stunned.

“She was an absolutely delightful person full of talents, full of life, full of sparkle,” said Jerry Becker. “It has been a shock to all of us.”

Becker got to know Blodgett through her love of music and theater.

She played the title character in the Hartford Players production of “Fiddler on the Roof”, which Becker directs.

“She was a very positive, optimistic, young woman. Very intelligent, easy to speak with...very personable,” he said of the teen.

Blodgett was a 2012 graduate of Hartford Union High School where she was heavily involved in the arts programs there and well-liked, said Daniel Dobner, principal of student affairs.

“Just in Hartford. Something like this; it’s devastating.”

He happens to also be her family neighbor.

“We have not been officially told what has happened. All we can do is keep the family in our prayers.”

An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday. The Washington County Medical Examiner said it could be six weeks before they have a completed report.
