MILWAUKEE - Twinkies are back on store shelves starting Monday.

To celebrate, here are five little known facts about Hostess's signature snack cake -

The cream inside Twinkies was originally banana flavored. But when the government rationed bananas during World War II, Hostess changed the flavor to the vanilla.

Hostess brought its original banana flavoring back for a limited time in 2006 to promote the DVD release of King Kong.

In the 1980s, Hostess introduced strawberry-filled Twinkies, but they didn't last long.

Twinkies are a popular food for eating contests. One man ate 24 of them in under a minute. That's 3600 calories!

In 2010, nutrition professor Mark Haub went on a "Twinkie diet." He ate only convenience store junk food for 10 weeks and lost 27 pounds!
