MILWAUKEE - On this date in 1995 Milwaukee was in the middle of a major heat wave.
The high temperature was 102 degrees setting the daily record, and the low temperature was 84 degrees. The balmy low temperature was the warmest minimum temperature on record for Milwaukee.
Other notable weather occurrences on this date in 1995 include Montello’s warmest July temperature with a maximum of 104 degrees, and the second highest July maximum in Oconomowoc at 100 degrees. Port Washington also hit the second warmest temperature for July at 104 degrees.
On this date back in 1936 the temperature in Wisconsin Dells hit 113 degrees, the second-warmest July temperature for that location. Beloit and Fond du Lac recorded their highest July maximum temperature when both locations hit 110 degrees.
On this date in 1972 it wasn’t temperatures but tornadoes, with four twisters touching down in southeast Wisconsin. The first twister was an F1 and occurred near Golden Lake in Jefferson County, causing $250,000 of damage to homes.
Another F1 tornado hit north of Elkhorn causing just over $250,000 of damage, while a third tornado hit Genesee with a path length of nearly fourteen miles. The last tornado was also a weak F1 touching down east of Fond du Lac with a path length of only three miles.
