MILWAUKEE - With the courthouse closed, people haven't been able to pick up marriage licenses. But the county clerk has come to the rescue in urgent cases this week.

"We certainly don't want to ruin somebody's wedding," said County Clerk Joe Czarnezki.

Czarnezki has been personally delivering marriage licenses for people who needed them right away.

"A number of people had called me at home and either picked them up at my house or I did drop off a couple at people's homes as well," he said.

That includes a couple who's getting married Wednesday afternoon.

Czarnezki said starting Thursday, people who need to apply for or pick up their licenses can do so on the first floor of the Milwaukee County City Campus building on 28th and Wells.
