Deadly shooting in Marinette Co. leaves 2 men dead
MARINETTE CO. - Two men are dead after a shooting involving officers that began Monday night.
According to the sheriff's office, officers were called to a cabin for reports of a suspicious person just after 10:00 p.m. July 1. A man said he found a person in his family cabin, and that man was armed.
Not long after receiving the call, the sheriff also received a call of a car that had crashed into the home in the area. When officers arrived on scene, they found the driver had sustained a gun shot wound. He was taken to the hospital in Green Bay, but later died.
Officers were led to another man with a gun inside a vehicle nearby. According to the Sheriff Sauve, he wouldn't comply with commands from deputies, and eventually pointed his gun at them.
That is when they fired on the man, who died in scene.
The Wisconsin Professional Police Association posted a comment on their Facebook page Tuesday morning, saying, "The WPPA's field and legal staff are currently responding to a shooting involving multiple officers in Marinette County. Please keep all involved in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you."
Names of both men have not yet been released. The shooting is still under investigation.
