CUDAHY - A retired firefighter from Cudahy who molested his girlfriend’s 12-year-old daughter has learned his punishment.

Robert Shimeta pleaded No Contest to Sexual Assault of a Child last April. He learned Friday he will receive six months in jail, and four months probation, plus a $2,500 fine. Shimeta will also have to register as a sex offender.

The incident happened at his home while his girlfriend was asleep, and her daughter was on the computer. That's when prosecutors say Shimeta put his hand up the girl's shirt and inappropriately touched her.

At first, the pre-teen did not tell her mother what happened. But, her mom said she watched her daughter's mood change.

"I can't believe it either,” she said just after the incident. “I just wish he would have come to me the next day or a couple days later and said look, ‘I really messed up. I did something wrong.’"
