Last-minute preparations underway for Summerfest 2013
MILWAUKEE - It’s only two days until the start of Summerfest, and everyone's getting excited. There are many exciting activities at the festival, in addition to the music.
With new things to try like zip-lining and new festival food to eat, the 12-day event will not disappoint.
A lot of finishing touches are being done and a lot of new things as well to look forward to. Crews at Summerfest are working on overtime because one of the state's biggest summer events kicks off on Wednesday.
"There's a lot of activity everywhere and right now,” said John Boler with the festival. “We have the pre-show jitters."
Summerfest wants the big show to run smooth, especially with a lot of new things you can look forward to.
"We've got a great new paddle boat water experience presented by Badger Meter that will allow patrons and festival goers to go right out on the water and enjoy our beautiful lake," Boler said.
If you're a thrill seeker, festival-goers can also zip-line this year across the grounds. But, if you're more of a “sit back and watch” kind of person, a Summerfest show might be your thing.
"We've got a skydive show that will happen on five days of the event. At 2:30 [p.m.], skydivers will actually land at Lakeshore State Park,” Boler added.
What's sure to get you attention is a new interactive exhibit called "Summerfest Live Lounge" that will have you smiling.
"Festival goers can have their picture taken and immediately,” he said. “We'll superimpose the large red smile.”
Your picture will then go out for the rest of Milwaukee to see.
"That image will be distributed around the park on live image magnification screens,” Boler added. “Most notably they'll be distributed around the city of Milwaukee.”
Summerfest starts on Wednesday at noon.
