MARINETTE - A ceremony will be held this week to honor a new U.S. Navy ship being built in Marinette.

"A keel-laying ceremony is scheduled Thursday for the littoral combat vessel, to be named USS Little Rock, at the company's shipyard in Marinette," according to Rick Barrett with the Journal Sentinel. "The keel is generally the first part of a ship hull to be built."

Marinette Marine employs more than 1,400 people, and buys supplies from more than 120 companies in Wisconsin.

The ceremony for the keel-laying will take place Thursday, June 27 at 3 p.m.
