Shooting at Potawatomi Casino
MILWAUKEE -- It was supposed to be a relaxing night at the Potawatomi Bingo Casino. But when gunshots broke out, some witnesses rushed forward to do something about it.
“I remember, his hand's on the gun,” narrates witness Antonio Felder. “So I don't know if they're going to shoot. I had to put my foot on the gun and put my knee on the suspect’s back so he would stop moving."
Police say a 23 year old Milwaukee woman was shot in the leg after a fight erupted. De Von Dent shared photos he took with us. You can see a woman lying on the floor. It looks like she has a bandage around her leg and she's receiving medical attention.
“It wasn't the smartest move to jump on a dude with a gun,” explains Dent. “But if he had gotten up with the gun and we're standing there - we had to take our chances and do what we had to do."
Police aren't saying what type of weapon was used.
“It was like survival, because if he gets back up with that gun, somebody else is going to get shot," adds Dent.
Our TODAY’S TMJ4 photographer was able to capture paramedics moving the gunshot victim to an ambulance. There’s no word yet on her condition. Witnesses say they had to react because no one else would.
"Security actually ran the opposite direction," says Felder.
Police aren't saying what led up to the shooting. A 27 year old Wauwatosa man was arrested at the scene.
The woman’s gunshot wound isn’t life-threatening. The suspect will be referred to the District Attorney’s office for any possible charges.
