DELAVAN-- An innocent turtle found battered and bloody on a golf course.

It's a story that's sparked outrage tonight. Who would do this to an innocent animal?
The turtle was beaten with a golf club at Walworth County course.
Investigators are now in the process of talking to as many as three dozen golfers who would have been on the course when this happened.
"It's fighting for its life, said Jeannie Lord, Executive Director of Pine View Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Ozaukee County.
Photos of the injured mother turtle are graphic. The outer shell is punctured and a close up shows the eye of the turtle was badly beaten.
"Who in their right mind would do this?" asked Lord.
The turtle is now at Lord's Rehab Center in Ozaukee County.
"It is too early yet to perform surgery. If that animal makes it through the night, tomorrow would be the surgery," said Lord
The injured turtle was found Monday morning in a sand trap by a golfer at the Delbrook Golf Course in Delavan.
The mother turtle was drawn to the sand bunkers to lay her eggs. It's been an emotional day for Lord.
"They have already been laid," said Lord choking back tears.
The Global Conservation Group in Watertown is offering $1000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
The Fellow Mortals Wildlife Facebook page is also monitoring the story.
The golf course calls the beating unacceptable.
"We don't condone this," said Dan Piecha, General Manager of the Delbrook Golf Course, "but it's just bad for golfers in general and hopefully people understand this is one individual and not golfers as a whole did this."
The D-N-R tells me it is still investigating the case.  Call the DNR hotline if you have any information about this case. 1-800-TIP-WDNR or 1-800-847-9367. Callers can remain anonymous.
