Turtle dead after severely beaten on golf course; reward offered
DELAVAN - It’s a disturbing case of animal abuse in Walworth County, and it has now turned deadly.
A snapping turtle has died after it was found bloody and beaten, with a cracked shell at Delbrook Golf Course.
The DNR sent this tweet on Wednesday morning:
Sad news. The snapping turtle found beatenyesterday at Delavan golf course has died. Investigation ongoing. More as possible. #wardengirl— Wisconsin DNR (@WDNR) June 12, 2013
A $1,000 reward is being offered for any information on who’s responsible.
The turtle was given pain medication Tuesday, but did not survive.
Wildlife officials say the eggs were already laid in the sand at the golf course before the attack.
They’ve alerted the DNR to be aware of eggs hatching between 30 and 90 days.
