Messmer teacher, accused of sexual assault, back in court
MILWAUKEE - Megan Garland, 28, stayed quiet as she made another appearance in Milwaukee County Intake Court.
Garland is currently suspended from her job as a Science teacher at Messmer High School. Prosecutors charged her with sexually assaulting two teenage boys.
In one instance, an adult told police they caught Garland having sex with a 14-year-old Messmer student in another school’s parking lot.
In court, Garland’s attorney argued the statements given to police aren’t enough to prosecute the woman.
"I think the matter should be briefed and looked at more, and so we ask for some more time to preserve that issue," attorney Alex Flynn told the court.
Prosecutors pushed forward. They maintain police work points to a teacher taking advantage of her students.
"[Police] relied upon not just the statement of two juveniles, who were interviewed by Milwaukee Police Detectives, but also the statement of a citizen witness."
A trial date was not set. Garland will be back in court later this month.
