Four young children allegedly held hostage in Town of Burlington
BURLINGTON - Four young children are safe after being held captive for hours in a Burlington basement.
The man accused of terrorizing a family, and the entire neighborhood, is the ex-boyfriend of the children's mother.
The Burlington woman tells us she had no idea the man, could be such a monster.
The mother of the children recently broke up with the suspect, Adam Floyd. She tells TODAY’S TMJ4 she invited him back into the home, and that's when he barricaded himself in the basement for hours early this morning.
"He’s just been bothering us so I lured him into the house so I didn't have to deal with it anymore," explains Liza Eller, Floyd’s ex-girlfriend.
Eller claims she invited her boyfriend into the house; she wanted to talk to him to calm him down. Instead, he locked himself in the basement, with her four children, all under the age of five.
Witnesses explain they knew the situation was serious, when they saw the amount of police swarming the neighborhood.
"He got spooked because the SWAT team was here and I saw him go behind my garage and go that way,” narrates neighbor Jeremy Uhlenhake. “I honestly don't know who it was but he seemed kind of suspicious."
Neighbors explain they were terrified for themselves, and the children. But they’re happy the situation ended peacefully and no one was hurt.
"I knew he wasn't after us,” recounts neighbor Jackie Miller. “But it was very scary. And I was worried about the kids over there, because he had the really little ones."
The mother tells TODAY’S TMJ4 that her ex-boyfriend has a violent history of battery and burglary. He’s actually the father of two of the four children. Police caught him when he was hiding behind a neighbor’s house.
