Suspect held on attempted homicide of officer
JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- A Clinton man could face attempted homicide charges in Rock County after police say he disarmed an officer and tried to shoot the officer at point blank range.
Authorities say the officer was dispatched to a Clinton apartment Thursday evening because a 911 caller hung up. Clinton Police Cmdr.
Troy Knudson says an "extensive" and "violent" struggle ensued between the responding officer and a man in the apartment. Knudson says the 58-year-old man disarmed the officer and tried to fire the duty weapon.
WISC-TV (http://bit.ly/14uYdnw ) reports the officer was able to disable the gun before a round was fired. Police say the man continued to struggle after backup officers arrived, but was eventually arrested.
Knudson says there were no serious injuries to anyone involved, but the suspect was taken to a Beloit hospital for evaluation.
