Wrong-way hit-and-run crash on Milwaukee freeway
MILWAUKEE - It was a terrifying morning commute for drivers on I-43. A woman drove the wrong way hitting one car, and missing several others.
"Some broad just came down the wrong way on Lincoln Avenue. I'm going northbound. I just swerved out of the way, just missed her," said one 911 caller.
Frantic 911 calls trying to get the Sheriff's department to stop this wrong way driver just before 6 o'clock this morning on I-43 near Lincoln Avenue.
"There's a female, a young lady driving a black vehicle, looked like a Honda. She was going off the exit ramp," said another caller.
The driver entered the wrong way onto the Becher Street ramp. But before the driver could be stopped, she sideswiped another car. Fortunately, that driver wasn't hurt. Witnesses say she almost hit them too.
"Yeah. I just missed her. I swerved out of the way. She creamed the wall."
Wrong way drivers have been a big problem in Milwaukee County. This is the 5th so far this year. The Sheriff's department has put up flashing lights warning drivers about wrong way drivers, but the Sheriff's department said this car wasn't in one of those areas.
The Sheriff's department is asking you to call them if you know anything about this wrong way driver. They are still looking for her.
