Thunderstorms knock out power to 17,000 We Energies customers
WATERTOWN - We Energies crews have spent Wednesday morning restoring power to thousands of people across Southeastern Wisconsin.
According to We Energies, there were hundreds of different outages from Sun Prairie to Watertown to Brookfield and Wauwatosa, and many places in between.
Crews reportedly found downed trees and power lines all over the area.
The outages affected as many as 17,000 customers. As of 6:00 a.m., about 2,000 customers still did not have power.
It appeared the storm hit Milwaukee, Waukesha, Dodge and Jefferson Counties the hardest.
There was at least one 68 mile per hour wind gust recorded in Oconomowoc.
Spokesman Barry McNulty told Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Jay Sorgi that during the 6:00 a.m. hour, the biggest outages included "a fair amount in the Watertown area...as well as Brookfield, Elm Grove, Waukesha and some in the northern portions of Milwaukee County as well and Menomone Falls."
