Milwaukee Firefighters Not Happy with Proposed Budget Cuts

By Kyle Dlabay

Milwaukee firefighters are not happy with proposed budget cuts. Hundreds of firefighters packed city hall Monday morning to show their displeasure.

Fire Chief Doug Holton was told to cut expenses by $4,500,000.

"This budget will continue the purge on the Milwaukee Fire Department," said Milwaukee Alderman Bob Donovan.

Union officials say 39 firefighter positions are in jeopardy.

Mayor Tom Barrett says the city wants to restructure the fire department in order to save money.

"I have great respect for the firefighters, but I am also not in a position where I can print money," said Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett

"The City of Milwaukee can not print money."
