Arrest made in 2005 Racine triple homicide
RACINE - It's a triple murder that's been a "cold case" for eight years, but Racine police have a suspect.
Police have long suspected Juwan Matthews was the culprit. He's been in federal prison in California on drug charges. Investigators say enough time has passed witness who were afraid to talk have now given valuable information.
“There is nothing I can compare losing a child to," said Mary Helena, mother of victim Aaron Woods.
Helena has waited a long time for justice for her son. This Mother's Day she can rest assured that police have nabbed the man they think killed her son, and his friends Ryan Lockridge and Frank Mister.
"I'm not jumping up and down until this is over. This is death. On my end this is very final," said Helena.
Police say the men were in an inter-gang fued that escalated. The shooting happened by Mr. Kool's Sportsbar. Three were killed, several more were injured.
"Greed, money, weapons and pride were involved," said Racine Police Investigator Chad Stillman.
Juwan Matthews was in court today to face the charges, investigators argue it may have taken awhile, but they feel confident they have solved one of the worst crimes in Racine.
"It's kind of bittersweet. It still doesn't take back what happened," Stillman said.
“Whether someone is convicted or not, we are still going to be grieving. There are no winners. I do want to see justice," Helena said.
Police are asking anyone with information on the crime to call the Racine Police Department Investigations Unit at 262-635-7756, Crimestoppers at 262-636-9330, or by texting RACS plus the message to CRIMES (274637) and referring to Tipsoft I.D. #TIP417 with your text message.
