MILWAUKEE - The inmate deputies have been searching for since Wednesday morning has been caught inside the hospital where he escaped.
Squad cars surrounded the Columbia St. Mary's Cancer Center in Milwaukee Wednesday morning, trying to find a Milwaukee County Jail inmate.
TODAY'S TMJ4's Cody Holyoke reports that an inmate was being brought in for medical help at that east side location. He subsequently escaped.
"An inmate in custody for possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia assaulted the armed correctional officer who was escorting him to a medical appointment at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital," the Milwaukee County Sheriff's office said. "He was unhandcuffed to use the bathroom when he assaulted the officer and fled. The correctional officer gave chase and lost him after he fled into a nearby building."
A witness tells Holyoke the escape happened at about 11:00 a.m.
The sheriff says the inmate is Keyon L. Westlan, 30 of Milwaukee. He is black, 6’ 7” and weighs 210 pounds. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call MCSO at 414-278-4788.
Westlan’s current charges are for possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia, and he now faces additional charges of Escape from Custody and Battery by Prisoner.
The man could be hiding in the cancer center building.
