Racine firefighters uncover more than just flames in home
RACINE, Wis. - A Racine fire is being called a crime scene. Firefighters discovered dangerous chemicals inside a burning house, forcing them to call out a hazmat team.
It's on Parkview Drive. The home remains boarded up.
Neighbors are surprised that police say it was being used as a drug lab.
Police say chemicals used to make drugs were discovered in a burned out room on the second floor.
Richard Schoedel owns the home, but hasn't been there in months because he left to have knee surgery. He says he was stunned to find his house charred. Schoedel says his nephew was helping to take care of the house.
