Great news, I-94 is back open in both directions. Crews were able to finish work early to reopen the lanes, which have been closed since last week due to the high rivers through Jefferson County.
Each lane is down to one lane of traffic as westbound traffic was moved to the eastbound lanes, which the state has been able to keep open.
Construction workers worked around the clock to build crossovers that allow traffic to get from the westbound lanes into the eastbound side. "They've been working almost solid for the last two days," says DOT spokesman Dennis Shook. "They've been doing a great job, but unlike last week, the weather has actually cooperated."

Other Previously-Flooded Roadways Might Not Be Declared Safe Yet
Regarding inspection of other flooded roadways, that won't be done for a while.
"That's gonna take us a little more time," states Shook.
"The problem is hard to understand for people. When they don't see water right up over the bridge, they think everything's fine.
"When we have water that's butting up against the bridge, it makes it a less stable structure. You can't really get under it until the water is down below the girders that support the bridge.
"That's why we're building the crossover, to keep people off that bridge as they're heading on the westbound side."
Is The Eastbound Side Safe?
Shook states it is and has been since the flooding happened.
"It's OK. We've looked at those. On the eastbound lanes, the bridges aren't as impacted by the river, so we can see that."
And what's a safe speed to drive these stretches once it gets going?
"55 going into it, 45 through the real tight zone. It's going to be really tight, and we're going to put a lot of state patrol around there."
