Woman arrested for 4th OWI after driving into oncoming traffic
MILWAUKEE - A woman from Milwaukee has been arrested for her fourth OWI after being pulled over Tuesday afternoon by a Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputy.
The sheriff's office said they received a call about a possible drunk driver around 3:00 p.m., saying the car had driven into oncoming traffic four times, almost hitting a parked car and backing up in the middle of traffic.
Deputies caught up with the car in the 1200 block of N. 24th Place and the driver, Carlene Latrease Kubera, 37, told officers she had had two shots of tequila and medication.
Her blood alcohol level was .49, which is below the normal legal limit to drive. But because Kubera has three previous OWIs, her blood alcohol content cannot exceed .02.
"Kubera had three prior Driving Under the Influence (DUI) convictions from June 1996, August 1999 and September 2008," said the sheriff's office. "This arrest occurred within five years of her last drunken driving arrest, making it a felony. She also had a warrant for Operating After Revocation-OWI-Related."
The Sheriff’s Office said they will be seeking charges of OWI-4th Felony, Operating After Revoked/OWI Related, and Passing into Oncoming Traffic. She faces up to one year in jail if convicted on the felony charge.
