Big bed bug increase in Milwaukee area
MILWAUKEE - You may feel a tad itchy after hearing the cases of bed bugs are on the rise in the region.
"Southeastern Wisconsin had doubled every year for at least the last five years for the amount of bed bugs that we get," said Jason Freels, a manager at Batzner Bed Bug Services.
He told Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Michelle Richards that on a slow day, they get 30-40 phone calls, and during bed bug season, which is June to October, they'll get as many a 100 calls per day.
He said bed bugs are fairly easy to identify.
"If you know what you're looking for, which is fecal staining, it's the first sign you'll see. You'll see bed bug cast skins. You could possibly see live bed bug skins."
The City of Milwaukee confirms bed bugs are a significant problem.
The most effective way to get rid of the pests is to call a professional, but it can be expensive.
