Knife wielding man shot by Waukesha Police
WAUKESHA - A 44-year-old man is in critical condition following an officer involved shooting early Sunday, police said.
Officers responded to a condo complex on Spring Crest Circle at 1:45am Sunday to investigate a possible suicidal subject.
An elderly couple told police the 44-year-old man had refused voluntary mental health assistance earlier in the day. The man was armed with knifes and had threatened to "cut throats," according to the couple.
When officers arrived, the man held the elderly man hostage. He later exited the residence with two knives and charged at police. Officers were forced to shoot the subject when he ignored their commands to drop the knives, authorities said.
"All officers acted within state law, training and department policy. The officers acted bravely when faced with deadly force during a critical incident," said Waukesha Police Chief Russell Jack.
The man was stabilized and taken to the hospital via Flight for Life. No one was else hurt.
