MILWAUKEE - On Thursday, MMSD was forced to release sewage and storm water into Lake Michigan so the sewers could keep up.

“People should try to minimize the amount of water that they're using for their own personal use to make sure there's available capacity to handle the storm water,” said Jeff Polenske with the City of Milwaukee.

That system has handled more than 14 billion gallons of water between Wednesday and Thursday, and the rain just keeps coming.

MMSD said they were forced to release the sewage and storm water to stop homes from becoming flooded.
