Milwaukee-area hospitals prepare for tragedies similar to Boston
WAUWATOSA - Hospitals in southeast Wisconsin prepare regularly so they're ready to respond in the case of an attack like the one in Boston.
"We excercise our mass casualty event on a constant calendar, we do it at least twice a year," said Lisa Hass-Peters, the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator at Freodtert Hospital in Wauwatosa.
Freodtert would get the most severe patients. But there's a plan across the area to triage patients and send them to hospitals around southeast Wisconsin.
"They would stage the patients according to injury and then according to their triage they would be sent to the appropriate hospital," Hass-Peters said.
Hospitals have tiered plans to staff up as needed to handle an influx of patients in the case of a mass casualty incident.
