Milwaukee man arrested for murdering his stepfather Saturday morning
MILWAUKEE - An 18-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of his stepfather.
According to the criminal complaint, Luis Pecheco called his mom around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, asking if he could spend the night. According to Pacheco's mom, her son showed up a short time later and went upstairs and she could hear footsteps in her husband's room, who was also Pacheco's stepfather.
The door to Carlos Diaz's room slammed about 15 minutes later and Pacheco went into the bathroom, eventually emerging with a different shirt and leaving the house. His mom then checked on her husband and found him "lying on his back with a cover over his head."
"She then turned on the light and removed the blanket from over his head and saw that he was bleeding from the neck," according to the criminal complaint in the case.
She found a knife near his body, and called 911. Diaz was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy by the Medical Examiner later showed nine stab wounds, including one cutting his throat.
After being arrested, Pacheco said he went to the home to confront his stepfather when Diaz hit him in the face. He then "held his step father Carlos Diaz down on the bed and reached for the knife" and then stabbed him multiple times.
Pacheco has been charged with First Degree Intentional Homicide, Use of a Dangerous Weapon. If convicted, he could face life in prison, plus five years for the use of the weapon.
