MILWAUKEE - Just before 11 p.m. Monday night, Milwaukee County deputies responded to the report of a person who may have gone off the Hoan Bridge.

The first deputies on scene reported they heard yelling, but could not see anyone in the water.

"A deputy tied a rope to a bridge beam and around his torso, climbed over the railing and looked over the edge where he could see a person clinging to the side of the channel," according to Fran McLaughlin with the sheriff's office. "He reassured her that help was on the way, and deputies directed emergency personnel to her location."

The Milwaukee Fire Department showed up in a rescue boat a few minutes later and pulled the woman from the water. She was conscious and breathing, but according to McLaughlin, she was intoxicated.

The 27-year-old woman will be charged with her second OWI, and remains hospitalized.
