MILWAUKEE - Construction in the West bound lanes of I-94 near Miller Park will be suspended for opening day.

Two lanes have been closed near Miller Park as crews work to complete a lane redesign project.

More than 40,000 fans are expected to pack the stadium Monday. The DOT decided to suspend work because of the possibility of major traffic congestion.

Mike Pyritz with the DOT said, "We are trying to get all the heavy equipment out of the construction zone."

Pyritz said an additional lane will be open for cars up from the current two. The extra lane will be open to traffic beginning at 5:30 a.m. Monday, until the first pitch. That's when the DOT will move the orange barrels back into place.

More than 170,000 vehicles use I-94 on an average day.

DOT officials say the suspension of construction will only take place on opening day. They expect the project to be complete by the middle of April.
