Trip to the Elite 8 brings Marquette fans out to shop
MILWAUKEE - Marquette moved on to the Elite 8 in the NCAA basketball tournament last night.
By early Friday morning, t-shirts and other merchandise went on sale in the Spirit Shop on campus.
Sarah Bahr is making this a family affair.
"I am buying for my husband, for myself, my kids, my sister in law, my dad, who paid for my Marquette undergrad degree,” she said. Thanks dad!"
Bahr was pregnant with her oldest son the last time Marquette made it this far.
"I just think it's fun to watch, and I like to see them win,” she added.
Boxes of golden shirts arrived at 7am, filling the campus spirit store with pride.
"I’ve seen students, parents, alumni, so everyone is here and everybody's excited,” said Alexis McKinney, an employee of the store.
Just cross through the front doors and you'll find the Elite 8 shirts, stacked up and ready for excited fans. And they're certainly making it count, picking up more than one and shipping them to family out of state.
"I'm gonna get two,” said Elizabeth Alexander, a Marquette Grad. “I’m going to get one for my friend and one for my brother who's actually overseas right now, so I'm going to get one for him too."
Speaking of overseas, some believe that Marquette's success may be thanks to the first Jesuit pope.
"You know, we talked about a Jesuit Final Four,” said Marquette professor Bill Thorn. “You know, there was a Jesuit college in each of the regions."
"That would've been really coincidental if we had just Jesuit schools in the Final Four. It didn't happen but Marquette is still there.”
