MILWAUKEE - The point guard for the Golden Eagles' 2003 Final Four team is looking forward to the big game Saturday. Travis Diener said he sees a lot of similarities between this year's Marquette team and the Final Four team 10 years ago.
"It's great to be a former player and alumni," he told Erik Bilstad with Newsradio 620 WTMJ. “It's been a great few years for Marquette basketball."
Diener has been watching the NCAA tournament run closely, while playing professional basketball in Italy.
"It's a special run,” he said. “I think all former players and alumni are excited with what the program is doing."
Diener says he still close with many of his former teammates from the 2003 team, as well as the former coach.
"My relationship with Tom Crean is great,” Diener said. “He was one of the most instrumental people in developing me as a basketball player."
But that friendship will not divert him from his loyalty to his alma mater.
"With that being said, there's no question who I would have been cheering for (had Indiana beat Syracuse). Always Marquette."
