Extra patrols on the street for St. Patrick's Day festivities
MILWAUKEE - Multiple law enforecement agencies will be working overtime this weekend for the St. Patrick's Day holiday.
According to Captain Rick Olig with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, they will be coordinating an effort to crackdown on impaired drivers.
"In 2011, 225 people were killed and nearly 3,000 injured in alcohol-related traffic crashes in Wisconsin," said Olig. There were more than 35,000 convictions for drunken driving in Wisconsin in 2011."
Additional officers will be deployed through grants provided by the Wisconsin DOT Bureau of Transportation Safety during these events to multiple cities and municipalities throughout Wisconsin.
Some of the agencies involved include Milwaukee, Menomonee Falls, Fond du Lac, Wauwatosa, Brookfield, West Allis, Greendale, Hales Corner, Greenfield, Franklin, St. Francis, Cudahy, Bayside and Fox Point.
