Information on river levels in your area

As volunteer clean-up efforts begin after the "Lake Delton Leak," most people in the Town of Lake Delton realize the body of water called Lake Delton...won't have much water this year.

In fact, there's a chance that rebuliding of the lake might not happen until 2009.

"We pretty much have to rely on Army Crops DNR and anything they represent," said Tom Holtz of the Rhapsody Resort, located on Lake Delton.

"I am waiting patiently to hear that we will have something happen as soon as possible."

Holtz didn't have to wait long to see the lake drain when flood waters formed a channel that carried much of the lake's water into the Wisconsin River.

"This is unbelievable to watch the lake go down so quickly in a matter of about 10-15 minutes," stated Holtz. "The lake dropped about three feet. And as you watch that, houses spin off and fall and crumble.

"It was just something you would have expected to see maybe in a movie, not in our area."

Now, To Clean Up The Mess

Before refilling Lake Delton, it needs to be tidied up from debris.

"Cleanup that debris as much as possible," says Holtz of the mission to take care of what's left on the lake's bottom.

"We are going to be seeing a lot of brown mud for a while, but it would probably be more acceptable if we could get rid of some things that sunk to the bottom of the lake."

To do that, Holtz and other members of the community are organizing volunteers, to work on cleaning the lake between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday at 1010 Wisconsin Dells Parkway in Wisconsin Dells.  Directions

"We are encouraging any volunteers to come out and help us pick up all the debris around the entire lake," says Holtz.

Holtz suggests fans bring boots to assist in cleaning-up. Organizers will bring necessary supplies, but they encourage people with ATV's to help pick up garbage bags and deliver them to dumpsters.

"When that lake does get an opportunity to fill it will be a lot cleaner and better for everybody."
