DODGE COUNTY - Even though Todd Nehls is no longer the Dodge County Sheriff, he's still bothered by a growing problem in Wisconsin.

"We have got such a heroin problem in the state of Wisconsin," Nehls told me.  "It's not just in Milwaukee County, Dane County, or Dodge County.  It's across the entire state."

"Heroin is taking more lives than traffic crashes."

Addicts will do anything to get their fix, according to Nehls.

"It's unbelievable what they will do," he said.  "Bank robberies, scrap metal thefts, burglaries, etc."

Law enforcement agencies across the state, including Dodge County, have implemented programs to fight the problem.  But the results are minimal, Nehls said.

"Regardless of what (police) do, we're not gaining any ground on this issue," he warned.
