Information on river levels in your area

For the third straight day, Downtown Waukesha continues to resemble the canals of Venice, Italy - which means it's not designed for cars to travel through.

Officials have kept a large number of streets and bridges closed, as the Fox River crested at a record three feet over flood level.

Those roads could be closed for a few days.

City engineers are afraid the bridge structures themselves could be weakened because the water isn't flowing where it usually does, possibly eroding critical support points for the bridges.

Even though the Fox River is now slowly falling, inspectors are going to be very cautious about re-opening any closed routes through downtown.

"Were still asking that if people could avoid traveling through this area, take alternate routes around this scene," said Police Captain Mark Stigler

He says says inspectors can't get a full look at any damage until water levels have fallen back to normal.

The following is a list of the current street closings in Waukesha:
Main St. closed from Wisconsin Ave. to 477 W. Main St.
Madison St. closed from W. St. Paul Ave. to Bank St.
