MILWAUKEE - Wearing green, a number of people went from bar to bar Saturday in Milwaukee for the unofficial start of St. Patrick's Day.

Police said they were ready for the crowds.

Milwaukee police Capt. Stephen Basting said, "If you want to come down here and get intoxicated to the point where you don't know who or where you are, that's your right to do that, but bring someone along with you who is responsible for you."

The day got started at noon as the 47th annual parade stepped off, followed by the ever-popular Shamrock Shuffle pub crawl which was expected to draw about 5-thousand people.

Police promised to be watching the bars to be sure they don't overserve customers.
