Parents at south side Catholic school planning a protest
MILWAUKEE - A parents' rally Tuesday at a south side Catholic school is meant to pressure parish leaders into renewing the principal's contract.
Yazmin Figueroa tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that about 150 people have signed a petition, in support of Holy Wisdom Academy's principal Richard Mason.
Figueroa, and other parents, plan to keep their children home from school Tuesday morning, and together, they will march from the academy's east campus on 10th street to the west campus on 16th street.
Mason has been principal at Holy Wisdom for ten years.
Parents learned that Mason would not be coming back in a letter from Father Michael Ignaszak, pastor of Blessed John Paul II Parish.
The parish operates two schools: St. John Kanty and the two campuses of Holy Wisdom.
Milwaukee Catholic Archdiocese spokeswoman Julie Wolf confirmed that Mason's contract for next year was not renewed, but declined to comment on the reason behind the decision.
