Man's death called homicide, 16 years after being beaten in downtown lot
MILWAUKEE - A man has died 16 1/2 years after being beaten by men in a parking lot in downtown lot, and police are now calling it a homicide.
Joseph Hetzel, 49, died Feb. 28, 2013 from injuries sustained July 7, 1996 when he was 32. According to Milwaukee Police, Hetzel was involved in a fight, and severely beaten, in the parking lot at 500 East Michigan.
According to Hetzel's brother, the beating left Hetzel comatose for some time and paralyzed on one side. He suffered severe brain trauma. He lived with his father until his father passed away and later was sent to All About Life Rehabilitation in Fond du Lac after a fall in 2009.
The Medical Examiner has determined the Manner of Death to be homicide.
