Winter storm warning underway; parts of Milwaukee area to get heavy snow

The snow is over with the exception of a few flurries bands early today across southeast Wisconsin.

The skies will still have a few clouds but temperatures will start a slow rise into the coming weekend when we see maximums around forty degrees once again.

The next storm which appears in Milwaukee on Sunday should have more rain than snow for southeast Wisconsin.

The first five days of this month has seen high temperatures in the twenties and thirties and more than four inches of snow

Last year the first five days of March also experienced chilly high temperatures in the twenties and thirties and five inches of snowfall.

However, on March 6th of last year the high temperature in Milwaukee was sixty-six degrees and the rest of the month is history as it turned into the warmest March on record for Milwaukee.

After March 6th of 2012 there was only one more day in the thirties, with the remainder above forty degrees.

Never before has March in Milwaukee recorded seventeen days above sixty degrees, and twenty-one days above fifty degrees where the normal high temperatures are in the thirties and forties.

There were also nine days above seventy degrees, and the record warmest for the month of March with a high temperature of eighty-four degrees on the 21st.

Scattered flurries and light snow will linger until noon on Wednesday, otherwise it will be mostly cloudy with highs in the mid 30s.

Thursday and Friday will be very nice with highs in the mid to upper 30s and plenty of sun.

A huge warm up is expected for the weekend with highs in the 40s and a chance for rain late in the day on Saturday and a wintry mix Saturday night and early Sunday.

It changes back to rain Sunday afternoon with highs in the lower 40s.

MILWAUKEE - A winter storm warning has been issued from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday until 12:00 a.m. Wednesday for Jefferson, Kenosha, Racine and Walworth Counties.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for that same time period for Milwaukee, Dodge and Waukesha Counties.
The forecast for Milwaukee, Waukesha and SE Wisconsin is for more snow and wind with highs near 30 and wind chills in the teens.
Snow accumulation by 6pm will be between 2-4" in Milwaukee and Waukesha, 1-2" to the north and 4-6" to the south and southwest of Milwaukee.
The snow will taper off this evening with less than an inch of additional accumulation and lows near 20.
There will be some blowing and drifting with winds between 10-20 mph.
