CAMPBELLSPORT - Campbellsport, a town of just 2,000, is suffering its fourth deadly crash in less than a year. Now Campbellsport is dealing with another tragedy - its associate principal was killed in a car crash over the weekend.

Principal Kristen Langer knew it could only be more bad news when she got the phone call late Sunday night.

Associate Principal Lance Beyer died in a crash Sunday afternoon. Fond du Lac County sheriff's department said Beyer did not stop at a stop sign, and was hit by an oncoming car.

“This is a big blow to our school community,” said Langer.

She describes Beyer as an enthusiastic worker, funny, and more than anything, a proud husband. He was a father to a 3-year-old daughter and an 8-month-old son.

“Our job will be to always remember Lance and all the great things he did, and stay in touch with his kids and his wife,” Langer said. “Make sure they know they are always a part of us."

Langer said the school will pull together for the man who helped them cope with so many tragedies.

"Each tragedy brings us closer,” she added. “We know that the only way to get through these things is with each other."

The school will have grief counselors on hand for both students and staff.

The town of Campbellsport has dealt with some of other recent tragic crashes. Three teenage girls died when an SUV rolled last February. Six other teens were hurt, and all of them were students at Campbellsport.

Last November, a senior from Campbellsport High School died near Fond du Lac after losing control of his car. And just a few days after that, an 18-year-old man mistakenly backed his truck into a garage. His uncle was hit and killed. Three others were also hurt.
