Woman Awarded Boyfriend's Forfeited Bond MoneyAPPLETON, Wis. (AP) -- An Appleton woman whose fugitive ex-boyfriend is accused of slipping an abortion pill in her drink has been awarded some of his forfeited bond money. An Outagamie County circuit judge yesterday awarded Darshana (DAR'-shuh-nuh) Patel (puh-TEL') $6,100 toward health care and security costs. Patel will be back in court in July to see whether she can get more of the $750,000 her ex-boyfriend forfeited. Authorities believe 34-year-old Manish (muh-NEESH') Patel -- no relation -- has fled to his native India. The businessman is charged with seven felonies, including attempted first-degree intentional homicide of an unborn child. Prosecutors say he gave his pregnant girlfriend a drink that had a powdered form of the abortion drug RU-486. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
