I-794 project starts Monday and will cause delays until May
MILWAUKEE - Construction on I-794 starts on Monday, March 4 and will continue until May to add an auxiliary lane of traffic between 25th and 37th street.
On-ramps at 35th street will be closed the week of February to complete work on lane markings," said Michael Pyritz with WisDOT. "The work will link the auxiliary lane at 35th street with the lane in the Marquette Interchange that ends at 25th street under the current configuration. When work is completed there will be three westbound lanes and the auxiliary lane connecting the Marquette Interchange with the Stadium Interchange."
The project will also restore the second lane for I-794 westbound while maintaining the improvements along I-43 southbound to I-94 westbound.
The work that took place in Spring 2012 improved the traffic backups along I-43 but resulted in unacceptable delays along I-794," said Pyritz.
There will be no lane closures eastbound but there could still be delays that direction because of median work.
Schedule and closure listings are tentative and weather dependent. WIsDOT asks that you check 511.wi.gov for up to date information. You can also find more information on the project here.
