Drivers in Wisconsin are the only ones in the country slowing down in the face of higher gas prices according to a recent report.
The Governor Highway Safety Associaton said that Wisconsin officials reported a decrease in traffic volume and speed as a result of high gas prices during a survey conducted in May.
According to the Department of Energy, if you drive 60 miles per hour instead of 65, you can save 20 cents a gallon of gas.
Decreased speed also decreases the likelihood of serious car accidents. A 2005 study by the Transportation Research Record found that a one percent decrease in speed can result in a four percent decrease in fatal accidents.
The high gas price in the area is $4.25 per gallon at a Citgo on 79th and National according to milwaukeegasprices.com.
