With high pressure departing and low pressure approaching from the southwest, today promises to be a day of transition.

Look for slightly more moderate mercury with readings rising into the 20s.

Clouds will also increase through the day as moisture spreads into area.

Some lake effect snow showers or flurries could pop up.

Flakes will begin to fly everywhere through the evening hours and pick up in intensity overnight.

Most locations can expect to see between 2 to 4 inches of snow on the ground by the Friday morning commute.

After a period of freezing drizzle in the morning, snow will persist later in the day on Friday, though intensity will diminish as we pick up an additional inch or two before bidding farewell to this latest system.

A quieter and seasonally chilly weekend is on tap as we await the next weather maker for early next week.
